IMechE Social Gathering.

Dear Members,

It’s a happy day!
We are proud to announce our first social meeting for all young IMechE members!
As you may already know, we have just established the first Young Member’s Panel and committee
(YMP) and it is our pleasure to invite you to our first ever social meeting! Below are the meeting
details:
Date - 5th December 2007
Time - 7.30 pm
Venue - Nottingham University,
Level 2,
Chulan Tower,
No. 3 Jalan Conlay,
50450 Kuala Lumpur.

Do you have any question or would like to know or what are the current trends for mechanical
engineers in Malaysia? Why not come on to our meeting? It would be an excellent opportunity for us to interact and network with each other as well as meet ex-uni mates! Come on over and have a good time. Food and drinks will be provided for you during the night.

This is also an excellent opportunity for you to determine the course of the YM community in
Malaysia. Come and talk with the committee members, we would really like to hear your thoughts of what the YMP can do for you and other engineers alike, young and/or experienced.

We will also definitely use this opportunity to discuss the YM community’s activity for this year
like the “Speak Out For Engineering” Competition finals to be held in Australia next year. Also the 2006/2007’s Asian Region “Speak Out for Engineering” Competition Champion who brought home this year’s trophy will be present to talk about his experience.

Our own IMechE Malaysia Chairperson will also be present to give a talk on how to achieve your
professional engineering status as well as answer your toughest questions you can throw at him!
We would really appreciate your attendance to make the YM community a success. If you have any friends you know who are IMechE members and are below or at the age of 30 drag them along too.

If you would like to come we would really appreciate if you could reply this email
(wongsoonyew@yahoo.com). We are all hope to meet all of you there.

No plans to change AP system to auction based.

A few MPs raised a point regarding the AP system for the import of cars in Malaysia at the Dewan Rakyat earlier this week - and MITI deputy minister Datuk Ahmad Husni Mohamad Hanadzlah says the government is not planning to auction APs, instead keeping to the current system of dishing them out for free.
“Auctioning can jeopordise the business of Bumiputra entrepreneurs in the automotive sector as it will be difficult to plan ahead and make long term investments. The government introduced the AP system with the intention of developing Bumiputra entrepreneurs capable of competing and achieving progress in the automotive industry. The Bumiputra entrepreneurs would have to invest in terms of capital, showroom space, service centre, have links with financial institutions and establish a network of dealership,” said the deputy minister.
Are non-bumiputra entrepreneurs in the automotive sector somehow immune to difficulties to plan ahead and make long term investments?

Ferrari

At the end of an extraordinary race, the Scuderia Ferrari Marlboro brings home the driver's title to Maranello and presents Kimi Raikkonen - winner of the Brazilian GP, ahead of his teammare Felipe Massa - with his first world champion title. This is the 15th driver's title gained by the Scuderia - at the end of a difficult and venomous season with numerous suprises - thanks to the team's determination, encouraged by Daniel Rueben, and its believe in a sometimes impossible recovery up to the last moment.

Interesting Facts Before Tonight's Race

If Raikkonen finishes 2nd, Alonso 4th and Hamilton 8th, all three drivers would end the season on 108 points. Raikkonen would win the title on race wins.

If Hamilton finishes 5th and Alonso is 2nd, Hamilton will be champion on a countback to 5th place. They would be tied 4-4 on wins, 5-5 on seconds, 3-3 on thirds, 1-1 on fourths with Hamilton trumping Alonso 2-1 on fifths.

Hamilton can also win the title without scoring, providing Alonso finishes no higher than 5th and Raikkonen is not in the top two.

Nabil #2

When Daniel introduces himself to other people, he says "Nabil".

And in my defense, if it wasn't for my BRILLIANT navigation skills, AMAZING humour and KEEN sense of smell, we would not have discovered the Malaysian Nuclear Agency, 24-hour McDonald at Kajang and gotten stopped at a roadblock (Daniel or me shall blog about what happened there some other time).

Currently, Daniel wants to rip my nipples off.

And what the hell is a rempity road? The road we were on was sophisticated okay.

"Saya banggat gemuk" - means 'to bang a fat guy' (no offense to anyone who might be offended while reading this)

Nabil

When nabil says "SHORTcut", he means making me drive around dark windy scary rempity roads for 1 hour without reaching our destination. awesome.

Malaysian Nuclear Agency

Nuclear Malaysia History

Nuclear Malaysia (formerly known as MINT) was established in 1972 as the Tun Ismail Atomic Research Centre (PUSPATI). Infrastructural development on the 27-hectare at Bangi commenced in January 1979, culminating in its coming into full operation in June 1982 with the commissioning of its nuclear research reactor. PUSPATI was later renamed the Nuclear Energy Unit (UTN) in June 1983 on being placed under the auspices of the Prime Minister's Department. In October 1990, UTN was retransferred to the Ministry of Science, Technology and the Environment, and assumed its new identity as MINT in 10 August 1994. In the quest for a distinct separation of roles between promotional and regulatory functions, UTN formulated Act 304, the Atomic Energy Licensing Act of 1984, paving the way for the establishment of the Atomic Energy Licensing Board as a separate entity, in February 1985.
To satisfy growing needs for additional space, a second 81-hectare, Kompleks Dengkil, site was acquired in 1984. Both Bangi and Dengkil complexes, approximately 3 km. apart and flanking the North-South Highway, are strategically located within the nation's premier research and training zone, in close proximity to two universities and three national research and development (R&D) institutes. Within a half hour drive from MINT is Kuala Lumpur, the seat of the Federal Government, the administrative, financial and business capital of Malaysia, and home to two other universities and another four national R&D institutes. Malaysia, in turn, is strategically located at a major global crossroads, the heart of one of the most rapidly growing regions of the world, fast moving into the Pacific Era.
